The ACT is a test battery of the American College Testing Program given at test centers in the United States on specified dates throughout the year. The ACT is designed to assess high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. The test covers four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning. The composite score is the average of a student's scores on the four tests. An optional Writing Test is also available.
The ACT is an admission requirement for all schools in the University of Wisconsin System. The UW-System prefers the ACT, as do many schools in the Midwest.
Registration packets are available in the guidance office, or students may register online and pay the registration fee at www.actstudent.org. Juniors are strongly recommended to take it during the spring prior to their senior year.
If you need your official ACT test scores sent to a college or university, this can be done on ACT's Web site (link in previous paragraph; click on scores and/or score report).
ACT maintains a list of schools' decisions as to whether or not they require or recommend the Writing Test. The list on its Web site at What Colleges Have Decided About the Writing Test.
The ACT costs $34 (no Writing) and $49.50 (plus Writing). Late fee is $21.
Our Cedarburg High School Code for the ACT is 500-370.

The SAT I is the College Board's test of developed verbal, mathematical reasoning abilities, and writing skills, given on specified dates throughout the year at test centers in the United States. Many Eastern Seaboard and West Coast schools prefer the SAT.
The SAT II refers to specific subject tests given at test centers in the United States and other countries on specified dates throughout the year. They are sometimes used by colleges not only in helping with decisions about admissions, but also in course placement and exemption of enrolled freshmen.
Registration packets are available in the counseling office, or students may register online and pay the registration fee at www.collegeboard.com.
PSAT/NMSQT - Preliminary SAT®/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
The PSAT/NMSQT is a shorter version of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I) administered by high schools each year in October. The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading, verbal reasoning, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills. It also assists students with their college and career planning and serves as the qualifying test for scholarships awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The PSAT (and scholarship eligibility) is geared for junior students, but interested sophomores can also take the PSAT for practice.
The next PSAT will be administered at Cedarburg High School on Saturday, October 15, 2011. The cost is $14.00; make checks payable to Cedarburg High School. Call the Counseling office at 376-6230 for more information.
This test is given to all CHS sophomore students. PLAN helps students measure their current academic development, explore career/training options, and make plans for the remaining years of high school and post-graduation. It is a powerful predictor of success on the ACT assessment.
The next PLAN test will be given to sophomores at Cedarburg High School on Wednesday, October 14, 2011. No cost.
