Graduation Requirements

Each student must successfully complete Physical Education 9, Physical Education 10 and one additional Physical Education elective course to graduate from Cedarburg High School - 1.5 credits.

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSES RE-STRUCTURED

FOR 2012 – 2013

 

The Physical Education Department is excited to announce that starting in the 2012 – 2013 school year Junior students will be able to select NEW elective classes to meet their Physical Education graduation requirements!

 


 


  • Freshmen are required to take PE9; Sophomores are required to take PE10.

 

  • Sophomores may also take Strength Training and Conditioning class.

 

  • Juniors are able to select their preferred activities by enrolling in one (or more) of the elective classes. This new structure will give students more opportunities to participate in the activities they enjoy!

 

  • These classes are also available for all senior students.

Individual Sports

The emphasis of this class will focus on lifetime and recreational activities and the continued development of overall fitness. The following activities in this class include but are not limited to are: Golf, tennis, badminton, pickleball, bowling, table tennis, and personal fitness. Each unit will give instruction on skill, strategy, and relevant fitness concepts.

 

Lifetime Wellness

This course investigates personal fitness and wellness. Students will develop an understanding of aerobics and flexibility as it relates to their own personal fitness.  Activities included but not limited to the following: aerobics (biking, step aerobics, snowshoeing, etc.), and flexibility training (yoga, Pilates, Tae-Bo), personal self-defense is included as well as an American Red Cross First Aid / CPR / AED training unit.

ARC certification is received upon successful completion.

 

Net Games

Students will participate in a variety of net and racquet games. The emphasis of this class will focus on lifetime and recreational activities and the continued development of overall fitness. The following activities in this class include but are not limited to: badminton, tennis, pickleball, table tennis, volleyball, eclipse ball and personal fitness.  Each unit will give instruction on skill, strategy, and relevant fitness concepts.

 

Outdoor Education

Students will investigate and explore activities related to outdoor and recreational activities that could be utilized throughout their lifetime.  Units would include, but not be limited to the following: orienteering, biking, in-line/ice skating, hiking, camping, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, rope challenges, fishing, archery, disc golf, snowshoeing, and outdoor survival.

 

Strength Training and Conditioning (formerly Conditioning and Exercise)

Students will learn about human movement science while also participating in a wide variety of weight training, strength training and conditioning activities.  Students will explore human muscle anatomy; various exercise tests, performance training and other alternative methods of training.  The students will be in the fitness center and gymnasium training an average of four days per week, with one day of cross training.

 

Team Sports

This class will focus on lifetime and recreational activities and the continued development of overall fitness. The following activities in this class include but are not limited to: flag football, soccer, Nerf games, ultimate Frisbee, team handball, floor hockey, kickball, whiffle ball, softball basketball, volleyball and fitness.

Each unit will give instruction on skill, strategy, and relevant fitness concepts
