WEBSTER ROAR / PBIS
School-wide expectations
ROAR (Responsible, On-Task, Accountable, Respectful)
PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports)
Webster uses the multi-tiered and equitable PBIS framework to support our students and encourage positive behavior and interactions. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports and it helps us create a safe setting where students can achieve academic success, build positive relationships with each other and adults, and improve their social, emotional, behavioral and academic outcomes.
At Webster, we break PBIS down even further into our ROAR Program. ROAR stands for Responsible, On-Task, Accountable, Respectful, and forms the basis for how our students and staff interact with each other in our learning environment.
Just like learning academic skills, students are taught behavioral expectations and rewarded for following those expectations. Our staff looks to acknowledge those behaviors when they see them and correct students via the use of expected and unexpected behavior language and help them rebuild relationships when necessary.
ROAR/PBIS involves the following:
- Teaching students behavioral expectations through school-wide lessons, videos, posters, and booster reminders throughout the year
- Recognizing Webster students for meeting behavior expectations (ROAR) through praise and the distribution of ROAR Bucks, which can be entered into school raffles and used for various school events
- Using a Check-In/Check-Out program (our Tier 2 program to help at-risk students move toward greater academic and/or behavioral independence)
- Reminding and reteaching ROAR expectations, if problems arise
The following matrices all hang in every classroom, creating a consistent set of expectations throughout the building.
