A Note from the Principal
Hello Westlawn Families,
Happy Earth Week! We have some very exciting activities planned for our students tomorrow to finish up Earth Week! Students will be creating natural habitats for some of our outdoor friends, planting seeds, completing an Earth Day scavenger hunt and our fourth graders are even participating in an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony with our Cedarburg City Forester, Kevin Westphal. It is important to us here at Westlawn to recognize that the outdoor spaces are an important part of our campus and we need to take care of them just like we take care of our indoor spaces. Please make sure that your child(ren) dress accordingly tomorrow, as they will be participating in outdoor activities during the afternoon.
As we start winding down the school year, we begin to celebrate our outgoing fifth grade students. On Tuesday, April 30, Westlawn is hosting our 5th Grade Fine Arts Night from 6:00pm-7:00pm. You are invited to join us first in the gym for a 5th grade concert and then head down to the Art hallway, Art room and cafeteria to enjoy amazing art work created by our fifth grade students. Refreshments will be provided for all who attend!
Have a wonderful weekend and last few days of April.
Take care,
Katie Ramos, Principal
New and Exciting
CCSF Color Rush(free t-shirt if you register by May 8th)
Kicking off the summer while honoring the hard work of local students and teachers, the Color Rush created by Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund brings families together to enjoy the outdoors every May. Last year, over 300 participants enjoyed the one-mile fun run around Centennial Park! New this year, the CCSF will give back to our PTO a $1 for every registered runner that selects Westlawn as their school.
The second annual Color Rush is on May 30 at 5:30 p.m. and includes "blasts" of non-toxic color powder that add some good clean fun to a run that the entire family can complete. Food vendors, swag bags, raffles and other colorful activities make it a full event.
The entry fee for the event is just $15 per person and includes a T-shirt for registration by May 8th. Sign up today at runsignup.com and search "CCSF Color Rush" Be sure to select our school for the PTO give back!

Include a personalized message, decorate if you wish, and return it to the Westlawn office or CHS office by Friday, May 10.

THE PTO NEEDS YOU NEXT YEAR!
The PTO board is looking for a co-president, co-vice president, co-secretary, and co-treasurer to join next year’s board.
Co-President will preside over meetings, serve as the primary contact for the principal and outside meetings or organizations. The president is a default member of all committees and responsible for coordinating the work of all officers and committees to serve the purpose of the PTO.
Co-Vice President will assist the president and carry out the president’s duties in his or her absence or inability to serve
Co-Secretary will take and record minutes for all executive and general meetings, handle correspondence such as thank you notes and keep a copy of minutes, bylaws, and membership.
Co-Treasurer will keep a record of receipts, expenses and maintain budget for the PTO. He or she will receive and deposit all funds and purchase or reimburse expenses as approved by the general membership or executive board. Treasurer will maintain organization licenses and annual fees and ensure organization taxes are filed on time through a third party accountant.
These people will work with the rest of the board to plan and execute events, fundraisers, staff surprises, approve and support staff grants and more. Previous board experience is not required. As a registered non-profit organization, we rely on volunteers to help serve our mission of supporting the students and staff at Westlawn. Elections will be held at the May general meeting on 5/13. To learn more or nominate yourself for a position please fill out this form and our election chair, Mandy Swanson, will reach out to you.
We are also seeking event and committee chairs for the 2024-2025 school year. Chairing a committee or event is a great way to dip your toes in the the PTO pool with a limited commitment. Take the lead on an established Westlawn favorite or start from scratch - new ideas are always welcome! Chairs are particularly needed for our fall events - Westlawn’s Amazing Race (September), Mums Fundraiser (September), Staff Sunshine Events/Treats, Monster Bash (October), Kringle Fundraiser (October), Family Game Nights, and more
We would LOVE to chat about the responsibilities of each role, time commitment and all of your questions/ideas - email WestlawnPTO.csd@gmail.com to connect!
STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK - May 6-10th. Our Staff Appreciation Week committee is planning a dazzling week to spoil the Westlawn Staff. Stay tuned for more information on how to join in with your students.
Our next general meeting is Monday, May 13, 3:45-5:00 in the IMC. This will be our final general meeting of the school year and will host elections for our open board positions. All paid PTO members (as of 4/29) are welcome to attend and vote on board seats. This meeting will also serve as our annual meeting which has been historically held the first Tuesday in May. Childcare will be provided in the MakerSpace. See you there!
