Thorson Mission and Values
Mission:
Our mission at Thorson Elementary School is to work collaboratively in a student-centered, inclusive learning community that inspires the whole-child. We empower our students to reach their goals and dreams by encouraging them to persevere, grow, and become confident life long learners.
Vision:
In order to fulfill our mission, the Thorson community will consistently and collaboratively build a safe environment that ensures success for all. Through the implementation of clear and focused goals and expectations, as well as building on mutual respect, positivity, and open communication with one another, we will be successful at achieving our purpose.
Collective Commitments:
- We will be positive, contributing members to our collaborative teams.
- We will collaborate with, learn from, and support each other (emotionally and socially) in various learning communities (within the school and across the district) and be willing to try a variety of practices.
- We will assume best intentions in our colleagues and help create a sense of belonging.
- We will honor the whole child by fostering strong relationships, treating him/her with respect and care, and attending to his/her social, emotional, and academic needs.
- We will provide students with a wide variety of educational opportunities to promote success for all students.
- We will provide a challenging and rigorous program by teaching our essential standards of the agreed upon curriculum.
- We will develop and implement common formative assessments to monitor each student’s learning, guide our instruction, and inform parents.
- We will set schoolwide, grade level, and individual student goals and celebrate growth by honoring one another’s strengths.
- The leadership team will work collaboratively to ensure that all supports are in place so that staff are able to meet these commitments.
