SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
Cedarburg School District provides education to students ages 3-21 eligible under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) through a continuum of district services and supports. Specialized instruction and support occurs in all school environments. Instructional location decisions are made based upon individual student strengths and areas of need during Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings with parents and educators.
We are committed to providing high-quality learning experiences for each student in our schools. Special education teachers, para-educators, speech therapists, occupational and physical therapists work in close collaboration with general education teachers to meet the individualized needs of our students who receive special education services within the general education environment to the maximum extent appropriate. We aim for each student to leave CSD with the skills they need to be college, career, and community ready.
Special Education:

- Assists classroom teachers in providing necessary modifications and accommodations for students to be successful,
- Is provided in the neighborhood school whenever possible,
- Is driven by student need not categorical label,
- Involves parents and partners in decision-making about their child's educational program,
- Places an importance on developing standards-based IEPs,
- Uses evidence-based, high-leverage instructional practices to increase student growth and achievement,
- Is a service, not a place
