Cedarburg Board of Education Appoints Todd Bugnacki Superintendent

March 30th, 2015 – The Cedarburg Board of Education today voted unanimously to hire Mr. Todd Bugnacki as the new Superintendent of the Cedarburg School District.  Following an extensive nationwide search, Mr. Bugnacki was the Board’s top choice because of his collaborative leadership style, dedication to students, breadth of experience, commitment to current District initiatives and diverse background in educational excellence. “We are confident the Board selected the best person to lead the District.  Mr. Bugnacki will be a visible and engaged superintendent.  He will continue to build strong ties with our students, teachers, administrators, parents and the Cedarburg community.  Most importantly, we are confident he will continue the high trajectory of academic excellence in Cedarburg, as he shares our vision for student learning”, the Board stated.

The Board retained the services of B.W.P and Associates, a national school executive search firm.  B.W.P. assisted the Board in producing a profile of the ideal candidate for Cedarburg. The superintendent opening generated a significant number of applicants that was narrowed to a pool of fourteen candidates. The Board interviewed the top six candidates and selected two outstanding finalists earlier this month.  Various groups of teachers and administrators also interviewed the finalists and provided feedback to the Board.

Mr. Bugnacki currently serves as the District’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction.  Prior to his work in Cedarburg, Mr. Bugnacki was the Assistant Superintendent of the Greenfield School District.  Additionally, Mr. Bugnacki has served as an elementary and middle school principal, a high school principal, and as a teacher prior to his administrative roles.

"I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work collaboratively with the students, staff, parents, and the community at large,” Mr. Bugnacki said. "The Cedarburg School District is a destination district and I look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence as we work to ensure that our students are successful, 21st Century learners."

Mr. Bugnacki will officially take the Superintendent post on July 1, 2015. He will begin his transition by working with current Superintendent, Dr. Jon Lamberson for the remainder of his tenure.  Mr. Bugnacki is looking forward to holding meetings with parents, staff and community groups during the transition.

Westlawn Receives Two National Promising Practice Awards

The Cedarburg School District was represented by Westlawn School this fall at the national convention of the Character Education Partnership in Washington DC.  Westlawn School received two national Promising Practice Awards at the convention; one for its Girls Getaway project that was designed and implemented by former Westlawn school counselor Kristen Kapler.  Fifth grade girls and their moms (or significant adult female in their life) gathered for an evening of bonding, sharing hopes and dreams for the future, relationship-building activities and just plain fun, as the girls prepare to leave the halls of Westlawn and enter the world of Webster Transitional School. The other award recognized Westlawn School's Parent Engagement Project, which builds bridges between school and home every month through hands-on activities that families do together to promote, reinforce and practice monthly character pillars.
