MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS
The Cedarburg School District serves approximately 3,100 students, including Multilingual Learners (MLs) who speak a variety of languages, including, Amharic, Arabic, Dutch, Egyptian, French, German, Gujarati, Haitian Creole, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Somali, Ukrainian, and Urdu among others. Multilingual students bring a rich familiarity with multiple cultures and ethnicities to the Cedarburg School District.
The fundamental philosophy of the Cedarburg School District is to provide equitable educational opportunities to all students. The purpose of the Multilingual Learner (ML) Program in the Cedarburg School District is to give an overview of the procedural requirements and services to be provided to students with English language acquisition needs. Federal requirements protect the rights of this group of students to receive an equal education, meaning that all MLs, regardless of race, nationality, gender, or identity orientation, beliefs, or abilities, will receive the same rigorous education through the provision of accommodations to make learning accessible. Further details of the program can be found in the Cedarburg Multilingual Learner Guidebook.
