
Wendy Markham Hirsch
Wendy Markham earned four letters from 1978 to 1981 in Girls Track and Field. She was named the team captain her junior and senior year and was voted Most Valuable Player in 1980. Wendy set the conference record in girls high jump at 5'8 ¾".
In postseason competition, Wendy was a 1979, WIAA Regional and Sectional high jump champion, clearing 5'10", and a 400m dash champion with 58.3 seconds. At the WIAA State Track and Field Meet, she placed fourth in the 400m run, and was a State Champion in the high jump, clearing 5'6". The following year Wendy repeated her success as a State Champion by setting the high jump record at 6'0", which has remained hers since. This qualified Wendy for the 1980 Olympic Track and Field trials, where she placed seventh.
Wendy attended and competed at Florida State University, where she earned D1 All-American accolades in high jump in 1982, ’83, and ‘84 and was a member of the 1984 NCAA D1 National Championship Team. She was also an Academic All-American while at Florida State.
Wendy then turned her talents to coaching, and in 1995, she was inducted into the Wisconsin Track Coaches’ Hall of Fame.
