
Jeff, Bret, & Paul Corner
For one family, the wrestling program at CHS created a long-standing legacy. Brothers Jeff, Bret and Paul Corner brought great pride and competitive success to Cedarburg High School. They are each true ambassadors for the sport of wrestling not only for Cedarburg High School but for the State of Wisconsin, as well as the national platform. All three brothers found ways to not only compete at a high level but also to give back to the wrestling community.
Jeff Corner graduated Cedarburg High School in 1977, where he set the bar high in the wrestling arena. Jeff was an accomplished wrestler at CHS receiving many accolades. He was team captain, a 2-time WIAA State Qualifier, a 3-time WIAA Regional Champion, a 2-time WIAA Sectional Champion and won numerous tournaments throughout his high school career. After graduating from CHS, Jeff continued to have great success while wrestling at UW-LaCrosse, where he was a 4-time Collegiate National Qualifier. He also was team captain and MVP in 1981 and continued to have tremendous success at tournaments. In 1982 Jeff became the UW-LaCrosse assistant coach. After college, Jeff went on to be the Webster Middle School coach for over 25 years. Jeff has helped develop many young wrestlers who have gone on to have great success at CHS and beyond.
Bret Corner attended Cedarburg High School from 1978-1982, where he was a distinguished wrestler. He finished with a final record of 79-16 and was a 2-time WIAA State Qualifier. Bret also was a 2-time WIAA Sectional Champion and a 2-time Braveland Conference Champion. He continued his stellar wrestling career at UW-LaCrosse where he found continued success. His top awards and accomplishments include 3-time NAIA All-American, 4-time National Qualifier, and 3-time UWL team captain. He finished with an impressive collegiate record of 111-21-1. After his competitive athletic career, Bret also went on to become a coach. He founded Wisconsin’s Concordia University wrestling program in 1991 and was the head coach from 1991-2013.
Paul Corner was a student-athlete at Cedarburg High School from 1980-1984. During that time, he participated in wrestling, baseball, and track. Paul was always known as a standout on the mat. As a 4-year letter winner, he finished his wrestling career at CHS with over 90 wins. Some of his other accomplishments included being named captain and MVP of his team in 1983 and 1984. In 1984, he recorded the fastest pin at CHS (:10). Paul placed 5th at the WIAA State Tournament in 1983. Upon graduation he attended UW-LaCrosse, where he continued his impressive wrestling career. Paul was a 4-time Wisconsin State University Conference Champion, captain, and MVP in 1988 and 1989, while also taking 4th place as an NAIA All-American in 1989. He finished with over 90 college wins and was 1 of 27 wrestlers named to the WIAC All-Time Wrestling Team in the first 100 years of the conference. He went on to be the assistant wrestling coach of San Antonio Winston Churchill High School from 1995-1997.
